Keep Debris Out Of The Pool

Debris in a pool such as leaves, insects, pet hair, and animal waste make it dirty, cloudy and uninviting. It can also clog up filters and drains. Debris can throw off the balance of chemicals and provide food for algae, making it grow. Getting rid of debris should be a priority. Use a long handled net to remove any debris that is out of reach.

Empty The Skimmer Basket Often

Other swimming pool cleaning tips include emptying the skimmer basket frequently. Skimmer baskets can become filled with debris in a very short period of time, so it is essential that you check and empty the skimmer basket several times a week. This simple task can help improve filter efficiency and water flow.

Keep The Pool Deck Well-Maintained

It is important to keep the pool deck well maintained. Any cracks that appear between the deck and the tile should be immediately caulked. Cracks can allow water to seep into the joints and cause major damage to your pool.

Following these easy swimming pool cleaning tips is a good way to help keep your pool well maintained. Removing debris from a pool and regularly emptying the skimmer basket can help to keep it running at optimal efficiency. Filling any cracks around the deck with caulk can prevent water damage beneath the deck surface that can end up costing thousands of dollars to repair. Owning a beautiful pool is also hard work. Without frequent pool cleaning and pool maintenance everyone who swims may be at risk.

Tip 2: Pool Filters

The utility companies suggest that you turn your pool water over 2 times per day.

The filter is meant to operate 24 hours a day for the first 10 days (new pool).  After this period, filter operation may be cut back.  In the winter, the filter must be run at night to avoid freezing.  In the summer, run the filter a minimum of 12 hours per day.  The filter should be run long enough to keep the pool clean.

If you have a a booster for the cleaning system, then run booster motor 50% of filter motor (i.e. 12 hours booster motor should run 50% - 6 hours).

Tip 3: Backwashing and Cleaning Cartridges

Sand Filter:

  • Backwash once a week whether it needs it or not (usually 30 - 40 seconds).

DE Filter:

  • Once a month is usually enough except during monsoon season.

Cartridge Filter:

  • Depending on type of cartridge it typically requires once a month or up to 2 times a month cleaning.
