Prepping for Swim Season 2020

Spring is around the corner and that means that it’s time to start thinking ahead for the best time of year: swim season! At Blue Water Pool Chemical Co., we know the ins and outs of the process in getting your pool set for its prime season of use. Here are the most important steps in laying out your plan of attack:

Plan Early
Don’t wait for the weather to turn into a beautiful sunny and swimmable day to get started on your work. Instead, we recommend planning a few weeks ahead to ensure that you don’t miss out on any opportunity to swim this year.

Make a Checklist
To properly tackle the opening obligations of your pool, take stock of what chemicals you have on hand. You’ll need shock, chlorine, stabilizer and pH alkalinity in addition to good working pool equipment. While making your list, check for any damage to pool lines, filter baskets, brush heads and vacuum hoses. Also, be sure to add water testing strips to your pool store needs.

Filter and Pump
When you open your pool, you will want to run your equipment for approximately ten to twelve hours a day through the entirety of the peak swim season to help your pool handle the large bather load.

Chemistry
Check the health of your pool’s water chemistry through testing and then make necessary adjustments to ensure that it’s properly balanced. This is the most important step in ensuring that your pool water is safe and ready to be enjoyed.

Shock Time
Bacteria and algae thrive in warm water. To avoid any nasty scenarios, performing a shock treatment can effectively kill any lingering organic matter that exacerbates issues.
