Water Conservation For Pool Owners
Water conservation is a critical issue in the Southwest. With drought conditions reaching dangerous levels, it is important that pool owners do all that they can to help conserve this limited and essential resource. While pools might seem like large water users, Blue Water Pool Chemical Co explores a few easy ways to mitigate their impact.
- Check all of your water lines and other equipment for leaks often. Good indicators of a leak are wet or saturated soil underneath or around your pool equipment or loose or cracked tiles. Leaks can also lead to lower performance on your pool pump which will inevitably create conditions for cloudy water or algae blooms.
- Consider using a pool cover when not in use to slow the rate of evaporation of the pool water.
- Maintain a lower than normal water level to reduce the amount of water loss from splashing.
- Regularly clean your filters to reduce the need for backwashing.
- Use local, drought tolerant plants in your surrounding landscaping to reduce the amount of water needed for irrigation. Less irrigation will also mean less water running off of your landscaping and into the pool which will significantly lower the amount of algae causing nutrient runoff in the water.
The most important thing is to be a conscientious pool owner. Pools are wonderful luxuries that bring endless hours of entertainment and relaxation!
